Panel has already heard out various ticket aspirants NEW DELHI: The All-India Congress Committee observers for the Delhi Assembly elections, who had for a week from August 13, held discussions with various ticket aspirants at the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters here are expected to furnish their report to the Screening Committee of the party by the month-end. A member of the committee, Harikesh Bahadur, said over the weekend that the panel had already heard out the various ticket aspirants. “People came to put forth their claims for the tickets. Some came with busloads of supporters while others had a word or two to say about other aspirants also. We have heard them all and are now in the process of further consultations with the party leaders.” Mr. Bahadur said the panel had spoken to DPCC president J.P. Agarwal sought his views on the various aspirants. Likewise, he said, earlier the views of several of the 47 sitting MLAs, District Congress Committee presidents, State observers and other party leaders were taken. Only the views of some Members of Parliament, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and some of her Cabinet colleagues now remain to be considered. “We hope to complete the exercise in about four to five days and then we would be submitting our findings and recommendations to the Screening Committee that would take the matter forward from the first week of September,” Mr. Bahadur said. The four-member committee, comprising Ram Prakash, Chandresh Kumari and Harish Rawat (all Rajya Sabha members) and Mr. Bahadur, had divided the work among the members on the lines of the parliamentary constituencies that have 10 Assembly seats each this time. Dr. Prakash was in-charge of the 20 Assembly seats falling under the Chandni Chowk and North-West Delhi parliamentary constituencies, Mr. Bahadur looked after East Delhi and North-East Delhi constituencies, Mr. Rawat took stock of West Delhi and South Delhi, while Ms. Kumari was in-charge of New Delhi. Incidentally, the DPCC had also prepared a list of three to five ticket aspirants from all the 70 Assembly segments with help from its observers and district presidents. The reports submitted by the 12 teams constituted for the purpose are lying “sealed” with Mr. Agarwal and would also be forwarded to the Screening Committee. In the meantime, Ms. Dikshit is also learnt to have prepared her own wish-list that is expected to have a major bearing on the political future of a number of Congress leaders in Delhi.
