Well done: M. Rajendran, Vice Chancellor, Tamil University, giving away a certificate to a student at the valedictory function of an art exhibition in Thanjavur on Sunday.

THANJAVUR: Nature throws opportunities for artists to draw varieties of paintings, said M. Rajendran, Vice-Chancellor, Tamil University, here on Sunday.

Speaking at the valedictory function of a fine arts exhibition organised by the Kumbakonam Government Fine Arts College, Dr. Rajendran said that the variation in colours during dawn and dusk could offer a variety of paintings. Similar is the case with trees flowers and birds. Paintings like Mona Lisa continue to interest people over generations. The images of gods and goddesses created by painters remain wonders like Lord Ganesha with elephant face, Narasimha murthy with the face of a lion, Kamadhenu with the face of a woman, etc.

The challenge also lies in drawing invisible elements like wind. “Wind draws various paintings by touching the tree. Painters capture them in their works” Dr. Rajendran said.

He appreciated the paintings that were on display at the exhibition which were the works of the students of fine arts college. “They look like paintings done by experts and not students” he said.

He distributed certificates and cash awards to students. V.Chandrasekaran, Principal of the college said that 10,000 school and college students visited the three-day exhibition. K. Chandrasekaran, Principal of Government Fine arts college, Chennai, R.Gunaseakaran, Regional Director of department of culture and art, Kanchipuram, R.Muthu, Regional director of art and culture, Thanjavur participated in the function.
