170 cases settled at Lok Adalat

Judges of the Madras High Court P.K. Mishra and M. Sathyanarayanan heard the cases and disposed of them


Settlement to those who won the cases amounted to over Rs.1.30 crore

COIMBATORE: A total of 170 cases were settled at the Lok Adalats held on Saturday and Sunday in Coimbatore District.

The cases included those relating to motor vehicle accidents and family disputes. A total sum of Rs.1.30 crore was ordered as settlement to the litigants. Judges of the Madras High Court P.K. Mishra and M. Sathyanarayanan heard the cases and disposed of them.

Judges

The Principal District and Sessions Judge G. Chokkalingam, who organised the adalats at Udumalpet and Pollachi on Saturday and in Coimbatore city on Sunday, was present.

While Mr. Sathyanarayanan presided over the adalats at Pollachi and Udumalpet, Mr. Mishra and he disposed of the cases in the one held in the city.

Following is the break-up of the cases, with the amount settled in brackets:

Coimbatore

Motor vehicle accidents-59 cases (Rs.69.63); family disputes-38 cases and civil disputes cases four.

Udumalpet

Motor vehicle accidents – 18 cases (Rs.6.71 lakh); family disputes-10 cases (Rs.10 lakh); civil disputes- 12 cases (Rs.2.34 lakh) and cheque bounce- eight cases (Rs.6.60 lakh).

Pollachi

Motor vehicle accidents - three cases (Rs.2.90 lakh); family disputes- nine cases (Rs.22.75 lakh); civil disputes- four cases Rs.4.10 lakh) and cheque bounce- five cases (Rs.6.89 lakh).
