KOLAR: A departmental inquiry has been initiated against five police personnel, including Circle Inspector of Police Satyanarayana Kudur, for their alleged involvement in handcuffing of SFI leader V. Ambarish here on Wednesday during an all-India strike. Superintendent of Police Vipul Kumar told presspersons here on Saturday that besides Mr. Kudur, notices have been served on sub-inspector Dinesh Patil, ASI Venkatachalaiah, head constable Shivaramaiah and constable Ravikumar. Mr. Ambarish was picked up from a dharna which was being held in front of Deputy Commissioner’s office, reportedly thrashed and was kept handcuffed at Gulpet police station. A complaint has been filed against the police personnel at Gulpet station and several Left and Dalit outfits have planned a dharna on August 27 demanding transfer of Mr. Vipul Kumar and suspension of police personnel responsible for the incident. “Notwithstanding the action initiated against the police personnel, we will hold the protest on August 27 condemning the highhandedness of the police,” CPI(M) State committee member Gandhinagar Narayanswamy told The Hindu.
