This Day That Age
East Pakistan Governor Sultanuddin Ahmed on August 24 summoned the Awami League leader, Mr. Ataur Rehman Khan to form a government in the province. Mr. Ataur Rehman will probably be sworn in on August 25. Two months ago Parliamentary Government in East Pakistan was suspended and the province has been under President’s rule since that time. This will be East Pakistan’s ninth Ministry – and Mr. Khan’s third since the partition. The Awami League, under the leadership of Mr. Ataur Rahman Khan first took office in the province in September 1956. On June 18 last the ruling Awami League coalition was defeated on the floor of the East Pakistan Assembly on a cut motion on budget demand.
