Hyderabad and Krishna take titles

GUDIVADA: Hyderabad boys defeated East Godavari 58-35 while Krishna girls outplayed Hyderabad in the finals of the 23rd AP State youth basketball tournament that concluded at NTR Stadium here on Sunday.

The results (Boys final): Hyderabad 58 (Samson 28, Sai 20) bt East Godavari 35 (Naveen 18). Semifinals: Hyderabad 67 bt Anantapur 41, East Godavari 49 bt Kurnool 29.

Girls final: Krishna 21 (Dhanalakshmi 10, Jyothi 6) bt Hyderabad 10, Semifinals: Hyderabad 22 bt Kurnool 17, Krishna 26 bt East Godavari 16.

Krishna Babu sparkles

Krishna’s K. Krishna Babu’s 91 was the highlight of the ACA Central Zone u-16 inter-district tournament for Valluri Kesava Rao Trophy at Guntur on Sunday. In reply to Krishna’s 206, Prakasam was 17 for 1 in 9 overs at close of the first day’s play.

The scores: Krishna 206 in 83.5 overs (K. Krishna Babu 91, Kashyap four for 45) vs Prakasam 17 for one in nine overs.

ACA President’s wins

ACA President’s XI defeated ACA Secretary’s XI by five wickets in the ACA Central Zone women’s 19 selection match at IGMC stadium at Vijayawada on Sunday.

The scores: ACA Secretary’s XI 155 for five in 50 overs (S. Meghana 56, A. Aruna 41, Swathi three for 27) lost to ACA President’s XI 156 for five in 48.4 overs (P. Vineela 33, A. Priyanka 37).

Andhra XI triumphs

Andhra XI defeated Mumbai XI by two wickets in the Twenty-20 practice match at RDT Stadium at Anantapur on Sunday.

The scores: Mumbai XI 107 for nine in 20 overs (Aditya Tare 28, A. Chavan 27, Dinesh Kumar three for 25) lost to Andhra 111 for 8 in 19.3 overs (Sumanth 44 n.o., A. Chavan three for 12).

Rain spoils play

Only 4.3 overs of play was possible due to rain on Sunday, the first day of the three-day ACA North Zone under-16 selection cricket match at the Vizzy Stadium in Vizianagaram.

Secretary’s XI made 16 for no loss.

Shankar scalps six

Medium-pacer L. Shankar’s six-wicket haul for ZPP High School (Vasadi) went in vain as his team lost by 28 runs to P.S.M.M.E.R. School (Puvvada) in the inaugural match of the district inter-School under-16 cricket tournament at the MR College ground, Vizianagaram on Sunday.

The scores: P.S.M.M.E.R. School (Puvvada) 69 in 19.5 overs (L. Shankar six for 17) lost to ZPP HS (Vasadi) 41 (Ashok three for 12). A-Division volleyball
