Wanted: separate lanes for buses, two-wheelers and cars readers react

Sir,

Cannot we have separate lanes for buses, two-wheelers and cars on the new roads being developed and RTC buses be made to travel on extreme left side and proceed to next bus stop in the same lane?

Srikanth Reddy

Dear Mr. Reddy,

We have already notified the left lane for the slow moving vehicles like autos, auto trolleys, light/medium goods vehicles and delivery vans. Having a dedicated corridor for buses is rather difficult. It is part of a much bigger project – the Bus Rapid Transit System, which requires proper infrastructure. A study has been done on this. It may take some time to materialise.

Sir,

Why cannot police appoint private towing contractors like in Europe to check wrong parking of vehicles?

B. Vijay Kumar

Dear Mr. Vijay Kumar,

We have our own police cranes or cranes on hire to keep the roads clear. We have recently notified the timings for movement of certain types of commercial vehicles. We are keeping watch over their movement. In case you find any violation, please ring up Traffic Helpline – 1073 or 27852482.

Sir,

Auto-rickshaw drivers at Skandagiri temple area demand extra money over the fare metre. From Skandagiri to Ramanthapur, they demand Rs.70 or Rs.80. They threaten passengers if anyone asks why extra money should be paid.

P.S. Ramachandran,

Ramanthapur Dear Mr. Ramachandran,

You may lodge complaint against specific auto drivers by ringing up 1073 (Police Helpline) or 1074 (RTA Helpline). You may also report the matter to the Traffic Cop on duty at the point.

Sir,

I suggest that police should take pictures of drivers violating traffic rules and post the same on a website daily. This might bring sense of responsibility among people.

O. Shiv Shankar,

Banjara Hills Dear Mr. Shiv Shankar,

We have started taking photos of violations by drivers. Sometimes, newspapers publish photos, on the basis of which we book the offenders. Citizens may send photos to us through e-mail. We are taking action on such inputs as well.

Our e-mail ID’s are as follows: trafficpolicehyderabad@yahoo.co.in, trafficpol icehyderabad@hotmail.com

Sir,

Nearly 90 per cent of our Hyderabad drivers honk horns for no reason, even during traffic jams. Some continuously do it so as much as practicing a lost art. Do we have any plan to curb this noisy culture? Most of our educated class merrily indulges in this.

Moses Naveen,

Begumpet Dear Mr. Naveen,

Noise pollution must be curbed. People are disturbed not only by honking and multi-toned horns, but, these days, also by reverse gear horns, which are activated while parking even at the dead of the night. We do educate people against pollution – both smoke and noise. They need to take note and behave in a responsible manner, if they have been indulging in mindless honking.

Sir,

There is no pavement for pedestrians on road no.1 of Banjara Hills and anywhere near CARE Hospital. It is difficult to walk even the short distance from bus stop to hospital due to heavy traffic.

S.B. Rao,

Mallapur Dear Mr. Rao,

Your mail has been forwarded to the GHMC with a request to direct the concerned for providing footpaths and zebra crossing. Posting of traffic cops is being done.
