Judges, advocates and politicians participate in ‘Clean Nandi’ campaign

Bangalore: The Nandi Hills was the target of a cleanliness campaign on Sunday with a host of organisations coming together to make the place plastic-free.

Organised by the Advocates’ Forum to Arrest Global Warming, “Clean Nandi” campaign saw the participation of High Court judges, advocates, software professionals and politicians, all for a common cause.

The campaign, which was inaugurated by P.D. Dinakaram, Chief Justice of the High Court of Karnataka, saw over 500 people gather with the resolve to “Clean Nandi”.

Teams

About eight judges of the High Court and some MLAs along with lawyers and software professionals were divided into eight teams to clean the Nandi Hills.

“Each of the teams was headed by one judge,” said Ismail Zabiullah, member of the Advocates’ Forum to Arrest Global Warming.

He said that the cleaning operation went on for three hours from 9.30 a.m.

Initiative

A first time initiative largely by the legal community of city, “Clean Nandi” saw enthusiastic response, wherein much of the plastic waste comprising bottles, plastic covers and wrappers amounted to two truck loads, he said.

Disposal

“The disposal will take place outside the Nandi Hills,” Mr. Zabiullah said.

The Karnataka Legal Services Authority, Chikkaballapur district administration, Department of Horticulture, Department of Forests, Bar Council of Karnataka, and the advocates’ associations of Bangalore and Chikkaballapur also participated in the campaign.
