KOCHI: Minister for Dairy Development C. Divakaran inaugurated ‘Ksheera Samrudhi,’ a State-level programme to increase milk production through induction of high-yielding animals by dairy farmers in the State. A calf was given away free to a farmer by the Minister at the inauguration of the programme held at the EEC Market Hall, Moovattupuzha, on Sunday. The ‘Ksheera Samrudhi’ programme is under the aegis of the Kerala Livestock Development Board which will provide technical assistance to the farmers. High-yielding animals adopted through the programme will get free insurance cover as well as help at the infertility and cattle health camps. Babu Paul, MLA, presided at the function. Dr. Ani S. Das, Managing Director, Kerala Livestock Development Board explained the project and the prospects of the programme that was launched. Mary John Thottam, Municipal Chairperson, K. N. Sugathan, District Panchayat Vice-President and Mariam Beevi, Block Panachayat president spoke.
