Hotel employees injured by robbers

NEW DELHI: The manager and a staffer of a hotel sustained bullet injuries when they tried to overpower three criminals who were fleeing after robbing their employer of a mobile phone at Paharganj here over the weekend. The victims were stated to be out of danger.

According to the police, the incident took place around 9-30 p.m. when the robbers gained entry into the house of Rajender Singh, who runs a hotel near his residence. A few minutes later his son Raja arrived there and on spotting the robbers, called up the hotel manager Akhilesh Pathak for help.

Hearing the screams, area residents rushed to Mr. Singh’s house. Fearing that they would get caught, the robbers fled from the spot, but on the way Akhilesh and another hotel employee tried to catch them. The criminals fired three rounds, one of which hit Akhilesh in the stomach and another grazed past Sumit’s shoulder.

While the robbers managed to flee, the injured were taken to Lady Hardinge Medical College.

Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case and launched a hunt for the culprits. “They have taken away a mobile phone from Mr. Singh’s house,” said a police officer.
