HYDERABAD: The State BJP will finalise the first list of its candidates for 50 Assembly and 12 Lok Sabha seats in the first week of September, party president Bandaru Dattatreya told a press conference here on Sunday. He said the party would contest all 294 Assembly and 42 Lok Sabha seats on its own. It was keen that candidates should be fielded in all constituencies to ensure that the party emerged stronger. However, the central leadership would decide whether the party should contest independently or have tie-ups. Second listMr. Dattatreya stated that the party’s core committee meeting on August 22 attended by in-charge of AP affairs Prakash Javadekar and State leaders had prepared the first list, identifying the probables for each constituency. The 13-member State Election Committee, which was named on Sunday, would finalise the names in the first week of September, which would be then sent to the Parliamentary Board for approval. The second and third lists would be finalised later. Failed promisesThe core committee reviewed the State’s political developments and noted that there was a growing anti-government feeling among the people. Unlike Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s claims, the results of his promises have not percolated to people, the BJP leader claimed. ‘Day-dreaming’Mr. Dattatreya asserted that both the Congress and the Telugu Desam were ‘getting weak’. He ridiculed TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu’s claim of his party returning to power saying “he is day-dreaming. People would not believe him and the failure of the main opposition had led to the emergence of Chiranjeevi’s party”. Further, he criticised the “secular” parties for remaining silent on withdrawal of land allotted to the Sri Amarnath Shrine Board.
