TNCC gesture to VOC’s kin

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) has taken steps to ensure life-time economic security for descendents of VO Chidambaram, who launched a swadeshi shipping company against the British in Thoothukudi during the independence struggle.

Following media reports that VOC’s great-grandchildren were living on the premises of a temple near Mavadi bus stand in Madurai, the TNCC president directed local Congress leaders to render all the assistance to them. They are all grand-children of VOC’s elder son Arumugam.

A press release from Mr. Thankgabalu stated that former TNCC secretary C.R. Sundararajan and former district president Selvaraj Pandian visited them in the temple.

“We have taken steps to ensure life-time economic security for them,” Mr. Thankgabalu said in the release. — Special Correspondent
