“Frame rules for retired judges’ pay, pension”

CHENNAI: The All-India Retired Judges Association has requested State governments to frame rules for the pay scales, service conditions and pension of members of the district judiciary.

On Sunday, the members resolved to constitute a committee to submit a memorandum to the Centre, the Chief Justice of India, the State governments and the Chief Justice of the High Court.

Talking to reporters, Tamil Nadu Retired Judges Welfare Association Secretary and All- India Retired Judges Association Secretary (Southern Zone) P. Perumalappan said the association had urged the State government to implement eight pending recommendations.

P.R. Gokulakrishnan, former Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, said every State should recruit an adequate number of judges to reduce pending cases.

K. Venkataswami, former Supreme Court Judge, spoke.
