School Day of St. Marks Higher Secondary School, Mukuperi, Tuticorin district, was celebrated at a glittering function recently. Rev. P. John, chairman of welfare committee, presided. D.J.S. Rathnakumar, Headmaster, welcomed the gathering. T. Jonah, correspondent, Charlet Jothimani, Headmistress of St. John’s Girls Higher Secondary School, Nazareth, and Stephen Joseph, Di rector, Vision of Life Trust, offered felicitations. Highlights of the cultural programme were the English drama, ‘The Selfish Giant,’ karagattam by girls and ‘pyramid’ formation by boys. The school choir rendered songs. Meritorious students honouredAnitha Kumaran Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Thandupathu, honoured school toppers in matriculation and higher secondary examinations and achievers in sports at a function. Gnana Raj Koil Pillai and Balasingh honoured the students. The Principal, S. Meena, welcomed the gathering and the correspondent, K. Alwar, presided over the function. ‘Wall Magazine Contest’Kamak Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Tuticorin, conducted a ‘Wall Magazine Contest’ for students of standard III to XII. The students designed the pages of the magazine very creatively. The magazine comprised poems, stories, essays, drawings, paintings, riddles, puzzles and so on. The students prepared all the pages in class and displayed them on the walls. A panel of five teachers, along with the Principal, Senthil Kani, evaluated the magazines. The best pages were declared winners. Camp on pollution controlStudents of IX Standard of Bharath Montessori Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Ilanji, conducted an awareness camp on pollution control in Five Falls, Courtallam, recently. They collected waste materials and cleaned the surroundings and lit a camp fire. Anti-tobacco awareness seminarMelakottaiyur Chinniahpuram Nadar Uravinmurai P. Devasakayam Annathayammal Higher Secondary School, Melakottaiyur Chinniahpuram, organised an anti-tobacco awareness seminar recently. The Headmistress, Prema Juliet, presided. K. Rajan delivered a speech on the necessity of a tobacco-free life. A rally under the leadership of Mannarkottai panchayat president, Uma, was taken out. The NSS district liaison officer, M.S. Kannan, and volunteers attended the seminar. Independence Day celebratedSree Ayyappa Residential Nursery and Primary School, Karaikudi, celebrated the Independence Day on the school premises. The Manager of IDBI Bank, S. Rajasekaran, hoisted the national flag and took salute. To mark 61 years of Indian Independence, 61 students lighted 61 candles. They also presented a variety of cultural programmes. The chief guest released ‘Kids Times,’ a monthly newsletter, on the occasion. The correspondent, SP. Subbiah, and Headmistress, M. Alamelu, presided. Kamaraj birth anniversary celebratedAnanda Vidyalaya Matriculation School, Rajapalayam, celebrated the birth anniversary of Kamaraj as Education Development Day in the presence of its correspondent, M.B. Chandran Raja. The Principal, S. Gopalakrishnan, and Headmistress, M. Ramani, welcomed the gathering. Students from LKG to XII standard participated in different programmes to cherish the memory of the leader. Staff members read out poems and delivered speeches on the achievements and service rendered by Kam araj. Governing council members, R. Ananthi and S.C.
