Lush green gardens and other delights greet you at Tungabhadra dam

Work of art: The ‘Govardhan Giridhari’ at Chakravana in Tungabhadra dam gardens in Hospet.

TUNGABHADRA DAM: Those who visit the world famous Hampi have another eye-catching destination to see. After savouring the magnificence of the forgotten empire, visitors can feast their eyes at the Tungabhadra dam at Hospet in Bellary district.

It is not so much the gushing waters of the dam and the sunset that catches ones attention, but the lush green gardens at the foothills of the dam. At the main road is the ‘Chakravana’ with the branches of the trees cut in the shape of a circle. Amid them is the ‘Govardhan Giridhari’, with Lord Krishna holding the mountain on his little finger and providing shelter to people and cattle. The lively art work, which is a recent addition, was done by renowned artiste Solabakkanavar. The fountains and illumination highlights the whole garden. On entering the ‘Nandana vana’, the visitor is awe-struck by the well-maintained garden, trees, beautiful fountains in the Mogul garden, the musical fountain and the rose garden. For children there is a deer park, an aviary and an aquarium. “The Tungabhadra dam park is a mini Krishna Raj Sagar park in Mandya. We enjoyed our visit to the garden,” said Roopa of Davanagere, who had come for a visit.
