SP holds protests in U.P.

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party workers staged dharnas at various places across Uttar Pradesh on Monday in protest against “anti-farmer” policies of the Mayawati government.

Senior SP leaders, including state unit president Shivpal Singh Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav, led the protests at different places in the State.

Better compensation

Later, a memorandum containing several demands was handed over to Governor T.V. Rajeswar.

One of the demands was to provide better compensation to farmers whose land was acquired for the Ganga Expressway project and those in Greater Noida where four persons were killed in police firing on August 13.

The SP wanted the authorities to lodge cases against the police personnel found guilty of the incident. The party also demanded that the government provide sufficient relief to victims of recent floods in certain parts of the State. PTI
