Correspondent

Prime accused was an acquaintance of the victim’s family, says Police Commissioner

CUTTACK: The Cuttack police on Sunday arrested the mastermind and one of his associates involved in the sensational porno CD preparation case for which a 22-year-old Mass Communication student of the city committed suicide. Police believe that there are five more persons involved in this immoral activity who are absconding.

Tinu alias Pina alias Astaranga Sahu (23) of Kalyan Nagar in the city was arrested from an undisclosed location while his associate Bapi alias Subrata Pradhan (28) was arrested from his house at Naya chouk under Madhupatna police station, said the commissioner of police B K Sharma to newsmen here.

Asima Mohanty had committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan in her house in Khan Nagar on Monday.

Her father had lodged an FIR with police stating that his daughter took the extreme step as she was subjected to blackmail by Tinu and his friends after taking some obscene photographs of her and circulating them by making CDs.

“The key accused was an acquaintance of the victim’s family and had been close to the girl for past several months. After coxing the girl to have sex with him, the accused recorded the obscene scenes in October last year with a powerful hidden camera. Later, a master copy of the recordings was prepared from which more than 1000 CDs were prepared to be sold in the market,” said the Commissioner.

‘Criminal conspiracy’

The CDs were prepared purely for business purpose after hatching a criminal conspiracy. The CDs were sold in local market and in some places in Kolkata. Copies of the recording were also believed to have been sold to some adult (porno) sites, evidences of which was being collected, Mr. Sharma said adding that the accused persons might have made substantial amount from it.

The police recovered at least seven CDs from a video parlour in Badambadi bus terminus area. Police investigation revealed that at least 80 copies of the same CD were sold from the same parlour.

The owner of the parlour, also an associate of Tinu is now absconding.

Mr. Sharma admitted that there was an organized network operating in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar preparing blue CDs.
