DAVANGERE: A conciliatory meeting between the management of the Anjaneya Cotton Mill and the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangha, which was held here on Monday, failed. The case has now been transferred to the Deputy Labour Commissioner, Gulbarga division, Gulbarga. The meeting held with the assistance of the Assistant Labour Commissioner, failed to find an amicable settlement between the management and the workers’ union, as both parties stuck to their views and were reluctant to agree to the points of their opponents. The official then decided to transfer the case to the Deputy Labour Commissioner, Gulbarga. Officers representing the mill said the management and trade union had struck a labour agreement some time ago, which was still in force. The management had been paying salaries and other benefits in accordance with the agreement as and there was a standing note that the union could not put forth any demands which called for financial burden on the bursary. Basic facilitiesRepresentatives of the union Thimmappa and Anusuyamma said they had demanded certain basic facilities at the mill and asked whether it was wrong to seek them. They said they had urged the management to implement the Minimum Wages Act and added that the management had been extracting heavy work from them but was paying them less.
