Raipur: BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate L.K. Advani will kick off the party’s election campaign for the Assembly polls in Chhattisgarh here on Tuesday, which is likely to be held in November. Since the State Assembly elections are not far away, Tuesday’s public meeting of the former Deputy Prime Minister can be a ‘virtual’ kick off of the poll campaign for the 90-seat Assembly, BJP sources said here. Power plantsDuring his day-long visit to the State, Mr. Advani will address two functions, one at Korba and another at Raipur district, sources said adding the leader would be given a grand reception in that period. Since the model code of conduct could be in force any time, the State Government wanted to have the two big functions before it, they said. Mr. Advani would lay the foundation stone of two power plants of 1,500 MW at a cost of Rs.700 crore in Korba district, Chairman of Chhattisgarh State Electricity Board Rajib Ranjan told reporters here. Of the two, Madwa Thermal Power station would have “500X2 MW” capacity whereas Korba West Power project would have 500 MW capacity, Mr. Ranjan said, adding both the projects would be completed in the next four years. Mr. Advani would also inaugurate a convention of beneficiaries of the Rs.610 crore poverty eradication project at Raipur, which was started by Chief Minister Raman Singh after coming to power on December 7, 2003. All the 20,000 families, who have been benefited from the ‘Naba Anjor (New Hope)’ poverty eradication project, have been invited for the convention, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Secretary Rajendra Prasad Mandal said. — PTI
