“Panchayat chiefs should be made responsible for controlling hooch trade”

Staff Reporter

“Police officials should not only be made responsible but also given promotions if they performed well in controlling arrack”

Tiruvannamalai: In addition to police officials and VAOs, panchayat presidents should also be made responsible in ensuring that hooch trade is not taking place in their village, PMK founder S.Ramadoss said.

Speaking at the liquor abolition conference organised by Pattali Mahalir Sangam, the women unit of PMK, here on Sunday, Dr. Ramadoss said police officials should not only be made responsible but also given promotions if they performed well in controlling arrack. “The government is arguing that it cannot control flow of illicit arrack in case it abolished liquor shops. They use it as an excuse for not closing liquor shops.” Dr.Ramadoss urged women to change the mind of the Chief Minister who was unmoved by the demand for complete abolition of liquor.

Minister of State for Railways R.Velu, PMK president G.K. Mani, MLAs Ethiroli Maniyan, Velmurugan, State president of Pattali Mahalir Sangam S.Pushpa participated.
