Second phase of MBBS counselling begins today

PUDUCHERRY: The second phase of counselling for admission to biology-based courses begins on Tuesday with a total of 98 vacant seats for MBBS in the six private medical colleges.

The Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC) had commenced the counselling process during the last week of July. A total of 233 medical seats were available at the six private medical colleges excluding Sri Lakshmi Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences.

“The second phase of counselling for medicine will go on August 28. There are 98 vacant seats for MBBS. All the students in the merit list have been called for the counselling as they are eligible to attend. There are more than 2,500 students on the list,” said an official.

Though, Sri Lakshmi Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences has offered 20 medical seats, CENTAC has not added it to the total number of seats available owing to lack of official communication till now, official sources said.

For MBBS, the vacancy position is as follows: 17 seats at Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute, eight seats at Vinayaka Mission Medical College, 13 seats at Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences, 21 seats at Manakula Vinayagar Medical College, 12 seats at Aarupadai Veedu Medical College and 27 seats at Sri Venkateswara Medical college.

Apart from MBBS, the second phase of counselling for biology-based courses consists of the a total of 90 vacancies for BDS, B.V.Sc, nursing and paramedical courses including 18 seats at Mahatma Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Dental Sciences, 23 seats at Rajiv Gandhi College of Veterinary Animal Sciences, 31 nursing seats at Mother Theresa Institute of Health Sciences (MTIHS) for Union Territory and six pharmacy seats at MTIHS (UT). A total of 63 nursing seats were also available.

CENTAC officials said the second phase of counselling for admission to engineering courses would be held from August 29 to September 2. The third phase of counselling for biology-based courses and engineering would be held during the second or third week of September.
