State urged to invite Tatas

Bangalore: The former Industries Minister R.V. Deshpande has urged Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to act swiftly in wooing the Tatas to shift the Nano car project to Karnataka.

In a statement here on Monday, Mr. Deshpande said that with the Tatas contemplating pulling out of West Bengal following opposition by the Trinamool Congress, several States such as Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and Uttarakhand had invited the Tatas to set up the project.

The Tatas had already invested Rs. 1,200 crore on an automobile project in Dharwad, he said.
