Making a point: CPI (M) leader Brinda Karat at M. F. Husain’s exhibition organised by SAHMAT at V P House in New Delhi a day after it was vandalised by miscreants on Sunday. NEW DELHI: A day after an exhibition here showcasing the printed works of noted painter M. F. Husain was vandalised by miscreants, a protest meeting was organised by SAHMAT on Monday to condemn the attack. The exhibition, which was to end on Sunday, was also extended by a day. The exhibition had been organised to coincide with the three-day “India Art Summit” at Pragati Maidan where the artist’s work were not displayed by the organisers. But some activists purportedly claiming to be members of “Shri Ram Sena” vandalised the exhibition on Sunday afternoon. “In protest against the attack and the vandalism, the exhibition which began on August 22 and was to conclude on the 24th was extended in ‘as-is’ vandalised condition for a day,” said a SAHMAT functionary. A meeting was also organised to protest against the attack and condemn attempts to impose a narrow view of culture. Those present at the protest meeting included senior Communist Party of India (Marxist) leaders Sitaram Yechury and Brinda Karat, artists Jatin Das and Ram Rahman, and classical singer Shubha Mudgal. The CPI (M) Polit Bureau, meanwhile, strongly condemned the attack by ``Hindu chauvinist elements” and demanded that the culprits be brought to book.
