Kochi: Director-General of Prosecutions and State Prosecutor P.G. Thampi has resigned from the post. The resignation letter was faxed to the Home Department on Monday. He told reporters that he resigned from the post owing to personal reasons. Kodiyeri stanceStaff Reporter writes from Alappuzha: Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said Mr. Thampi resigned for personal reasons and not owing to differences of opinion with the State government. He told presspersons at the Alappuzha Guest House here on Monday that rumours of Mr. Thampy having differences with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) were baseless. “Mr. Thampy himself has clarified that he argued [in the court] for the government and not the CPI(M). If the government was not satisfied with his performance, he would have been removed from the post long ago,” the Minister said. Mr. Thampy had been discussing his resignation with him for the past two months. There is no need at all for a controversy, he said. The Cabinet will discuss the resignation and choose a new Director-General of Prosecutions.
