Muzaffarnagar: Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Mahendra Singh Tikait on Monday sent a memorandum to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati opposing the State Government’s decision to grant to unmarried daughters an equal right on farmland belonging to the family. Mr. Tikait said the move would precipitate suits and litigation within families and farmers would not tolerate it. The State Government had recently decided to amend Sections 171(2) and 174 of the UP Zamindari Abolition and Land Reforms Act, 1950, to provide one half of land shares to unmarried women of the family. -- PTI
