Visakhapatnam
Victorious boxing junior and sub-junior teams of Visakhapatnam with the winner’s trophy. VISAKHAPATNAM: Visakhapatnam is ruling the roost in the junior and sub-junior sections of the State boxing championships and not so successful in the senior section as the boys are being selected for the academies or selected by organisations like the Army Boys Company, and are excelling there. But the 55th edition of the inter-district championship that concluded at the Swarna Bharati indoor stadium here on Sunday evening ended on a pleasant note for the host as it regained the team title after finishing as runner-up last year. Best BoxerThe icing on the cake is that its young boxer S. Ramu was declared as the Best Boxer of the meet. MD of CMR Shopping Mall M. Venkata Ramana and Additional Deputy Commissioner of GVMC Pola Bhaskar gave away the trophies and prizes. The meet was held as the boxing circles in the country were rejoicing over Vijender Kumar wining bronze in the Beijing Olympics. A large banner with Vijender’s photo was hung at a corner of the stadium. Mr. Venkata Ramana said he would help the Visakhapatnam District Amateur Boxing Association if it was ready to arrange a visit by Vijender to the city. VDABA secretary G.V. Ravi Raju said plans were being made to host an international meet in the city soon and Vijender would be invited as a guest.
