BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Monday dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) petition by an advocate from Bangalore seeking to restrain the State Government from spending public money for the trip to be undertaken by legislators to the United States to attend a Kannada conference in Chicago. A Division Bench, comprising the Chief Justice P.D. Dinakaran and Justice V. Gopala Gowda, passed the order on a petition by Vasudeva challenging the proposed trip by 113 MLAs to Chicago to attend the conference organised by the Association of Kannada Kootas of America (AKKA). When the matter came up, the Principal Government Advocate filed a statement stating that not all the MLAs were going to the United States. The statement said only the Chief Minister, 11 Cabinet Ministers and some IAS and KAS officials were going to attend the conference. ‘No illegality’The Bench said it did not see any illegality in the proposed participation of the elected representatives in the U.S. trip. It also said that there was no merit in the petition and dismissed the PIL.
