dated August 26, 1958: Pak firing

Six Indian nationals were killed and 15 others injured as a result of Pakistani firing on the Assam border during this year, the Chief Minister, Mr. Bimala Prasad Chaliha, disclosed in the Assam Assembly on August 23. The Chief Minister said that Pakistan was following a deliberate plan of aggression with the immediate object of altering the status quo and gaining undue advantage in the disputed areas. In order to carry out this design, Pakistan had shown utter disregard of agreements and had violated the sanctity of the Indian territory.
