KOCHI: Medium-pacer Ajay Jayakumar took five for 27 as host Ernakulam bowled out Palakkad for a paltry 53 on the opening day of their two-dayer in the Central Zone under-22 inter-district cricket championship at the St. Paul’s College, Kalamassery, on Monday. In reply, Ernakulam made 269 in its first innings with captain Abhishek Hegde (79) and Laxman (94) coming good. Thrissur was sitting pretty at the other venue, Ambalamugal’s BPCL Kochi Refinery Ground, after bowling out Idukki for 95. The scores: Palakkad 53 in 18.2 overs (Ajay Jayakumar five for 27) v Ernakulam 269 in 69 overs (Abhishek Hegde 79, Laxman 94, Surjith five for 64) at St. Paul’s College Ground, Kalamassery. Idukki 95 in 40.5 overs (Manudev 54) v Thrissur 242 in 45.2 overs (Vysakh 72, Vinod 52, David Manavalan 43, Pius K. Joseph four for 69, Nithish Kumar four for 72) at BPCL Kochi Refinery Ground, Ambalamugal.
