Rs.1,447.12 lakh for road from Areekode to Tirurkad Rs.1,316.14 lakh for Alappuzha-Kuravilangad road
Union Minister for Road Transport T.R. Baalu has sanctioned the funds. NEW DELHI: Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways T.R. Baalu has approved Rs.3,551.29 lakh for road improvement works in Kerala under the Central Road Fund Scheme. A sum of Rs.1,447.12 lakh has been approved for the Areekode-Tirurkad road in Malappuram district. This is the shortest route from Wayanad to Palakkad and Kochi, bypassing Kozhikode city and saving at least 90 minutes. Improvements to the road will give a boost to business and tourism activities in the area. The proposed road will provide access to the remote villages around Perinthalmanna, the nearest township of Tirurkad with a number of multi-specialty hospitals. An amount of Rs.1,316.14 lakh has been approved for the improvement of the Alappuzha-Kuravilangad road. The road starts at Thanneermukkam Junction in Alappuzha district and ends at Kuravilangad Junction in Kottayam district. Five culverts on the road need to be extended. A sum of Rs.788.03 lakh has been approved for the Thalassery-Anjarakandy road in Kannur district. The road has a vital role in the economy of Kannur district since it provides connectivity for the eastern parts of the district to Kannur town and Thalassery. It is expected to accelerate the movement of agriculture produce in the area.
