Minister inaugurates Haritha Theeram project in district

KOCHI: Bio-shields will be created on four hectares in four wards of the Kuzhipally panchayat of the district as part of the second stage of the Haritha Theeram project.

S. Sarma, Fisheries Minister, inaugurated the programme in the panchayat on Monday. Besides creating the shield, the Forest Department will also focus on protecting saplings that were planted on 10 hectares in the district last year, said Sidhappa, Chief Conservator of Forests (Social Foresty).

The Forest Department is implementing the programme in the district in association with the Fisheries Department. P.S. Shaila, Ernakulam District Panchayat president, presided over the meeting. Y.M. Shaji Kumar, Assistant Forest Conservator, Social Forestry, presented a report.
