Nedumbassery: The immigration officials at the Cochin International Airport on Monday detained two passengers for travelling on fake passports soon after they arrived here from Saudi Arabia. The passengers, identified as Nasser (37), and Muhammad P.T (37), both hailing from Malappuram, arrived here by a Kuwait Airways flight at 6.35 a.m. While Nasser was found travelling on a passport in the name of Abbas Kannangadan of Malappuram by replacing the original photograph with his own, Muhammad was travelling on a passport of one Shanaj from Koodali, Kannur. The officials said Nasser obtained the new passport from an agent there as he had lost his original passport while there. He went to Riyadh in 2004 with his original passport and was not given the job specified in the work contract. On interrogation, Muhammad also revealed he had a forged passport with him that he obtained from an agent by paying 6,500 riyals with the help of his friends in Saudi Arabia. He had been in Damam for the past 11 years with his brother and had to obtain the new passport after his sponsor refused to hand over his original passport. Both the passengers were later handed over to the local police and a case has been registered against them under the Passport Act.
