Staff Reporter

GUNTUR: A 25-year-old jilted youth tried to kill a girl at a kalyana mandapam in Gurazala late on Sunday night creating panic in the wedding function. The condition of the girl, who received grievous injuries on the neck, is now out of danger.

According to the police, P. Narasimha Rao, 25, working at a private company in Hyderabad has been making advances to the girl, Kalyani, 21, for some years. But the girl has reportedly refused his advances. She came home in Gurazala to attend the wedding of her younger sister and was at a room in the kalyana mandapam, when Mr. Rao, armed with a sickle, barged into the room and attacked her. The girl was immediately shifted to hospital, where she was treated for her injuries. The assailant fled the scene and the Gurazala DSP constituted three teams to nab the culprit.
