Crackdown on sale of illicit liquor

Joint raids by Excise, Police, Revenue planned

Thiruvananthapuram: The district administration has finalised an action plan to crack down on the sale of spirit, illicit liquor and drugs during the Onam festival season.

A meeting convened by District Collector Sanjay Kaul here on Monday decided to conduct joint raids by the Excise, Police, Revenue and Forest departments.

The public have been directed to inform the District Collector, Assistant Excise Commissioner, City Police Commissioner or Rural SP about incidents of illicit liquor sale.

Excise control rooms will start functioning round the clock in all the taluks. Officials have been posted at 15 border check-posts in the district for round- the-clock operation, under the drive to prevent smuggling of illicit liquor into the district. Bar hotels, liquor shops and ayurvedic dispensaries will be closely monitored.
