One more passenger train needed

Nowadays people prefer to travel by train for it is safe, secure and convenient and also they depart and arrive at scheduled time except in some rare cases. The passenger trains from Madurai to Shencottah run twice on both directions. But still they are over crowded.

Hence it will be of immense help to the public if one more passenger train service is introduced on this route daily.

G. Jayaraman,

Sengamala Nachiar Puram.

Double track needed

Generally there is a heavy rush in all the trains start from southern districts to Chennai.

To minimise the rush and provide more frailties the Southern Railway must implement the doubling of railway track between Chennai and Kanyakumari, Nagercoil, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Madurai, Tenkasi and Tiruchi.

Will the authorities implement the double line track to introduce more trains to southern districts.

V. Rajendran

Paramakudi.

Relay all roads

Following the earthwork for underground drainage in Ramanthapuram town, all roads are in a bad shape and unfit for vehicular movement.

I appeal to the district administration and the municipal authorities to complete relaying of all roads within the entire municipal limits on a war-footing.

The Government should sanction additional funds exclusively for this purpose.

Asmabagh Anvardeen,

Ramanathapuram.

Dearness relief to pensioners

During the Independence Day address at Fort St. George, the Chief Minister announced that the Sixth Pay Commission for Central Government employees would be extended to State Government employees also.

It may not be out of place to mention the following facts. The Dearness Allowance was enhanced from 13 per cent to 50 per cent to those retired up to June 1, 1988. But those who retired subsequently from July 1988 to December 31, 1995 could not avail the enhancement of DA. Subsequently the Government filed a writ petition in the Madras High Court against its own orders, which were upheld by the Single Judge of the Madras High Court and got stay from paying Dearness Relief sanctioned by the Government.

During the pensioners’ conference at Salem on September 14, 2007, the Chief Minister had promised to do the needful to those who retired from July 1988 to December 31, 1995 whatever might be the result of the writ Appeal by the Government.

The High Court had subsequently upheld the writ appeal by the Government.

The Chief Minister has not taken into consideration the tantalizing the situation stated above and kept up his promise.

I request the Chief Minister to release the Dearness Relief early.

G. Nagasamy,

Ramanathapuram.
