Victim’s woes

With reference to the Focus on “Driven by extreme pressure to suicide”, these days parents are putting a lot of pressure on their children to become either doctors or engineers.

I was myself a victim of pressure from my parents. I was a clerk in a Multi National Bank.

My parents insisted on my becoming an officer in the bank.

I couldn’t clear the departmental examination even after repeated attempts in view of the stiff competition.

I went into depression and subsequently lost my job.

Give history its due

With reference to the Focus on “Bheemunipatnam – History in ruins”, the Dutch Cemetery is located at Kummaripalem on the outskirts of the town.

It remained buried for years under silt up to four to five feet and vegetation covering it.

It was restored in 1995 under the aegis of St. Peter’s Church (Church of South India) with aid from the British Association of Cemeteries in South Asia, London.

The Tourism Department gave the name of ‘Dutch Cemetery’ to the ‘Flagstaff Cemetery’ near the beach where there are hardly four or five graves belonging to the Dutch people while the rest belong to the French and the English.

The Tourism Department seems to have been bent on effacing the real and only Dutch cemetery from getting its due recognition.
