Stress on power conservation
Staff Reporter
DINDIGUL: Effective propagation on utilisation of renewable energy sources is a must to meet our growing power needs as fossil fuels to produce electric power in conventional method have been depleting rapidly, according to Collector R. Vasuki.
She was delivering a special address at the Renewable Energy Day celebrations held here on Monday.
Cooperation of people is essential in propagating renewable energy sources among people as government alone cannot carry out the exercise.
“Make it a movement”
Saving electricity should start by individuals. It should be converted in to a mass movement with total participation of the community, she added. “Even small habitat or colonies can take collective measures to cut electricity bills.”
With the shortage of raw materials, the country has been facing acute power shortage. Capitalising on alternative energy sources like solar and wind would bring a desirable change in demand and supply, she added. Already, panchayats have been motivated to conserve power.
