NEW DELHI: The All-India Weavers United Front (AIWUF), a pro-Congress federation of weavers associations in various States, has sought AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s intervention to implement a Rs.3,565.48 crore debt relief for weavers and artisans facing a debt burden. As many as 1.54 crore weavers and artisans could be saved, if the money was released. The amount would be only 5 per cent of the money (Rs.72,000 crore) that was provided to agriculturists, said a memorandum submitted by AIWUF to Mr. Gandhi here on Monday. Andhra Pradesh Congress MP and senior functionary of the federation D. Vittal Rao said at least Rs.300 crore was needed for the State alone.
