New V-C urges Union Minister to set up Defence Studies Centre at Kakinada International agencies to be roped in to give performance rating to JNTU Kakinada: First Vice-Chancellor of JNTU, Kakinada, Allam Appa Rao said on Tuesday he would strive to transform the university into a world class institution and enable students to become ‘job givers’, not job seekers. The JNTU will reach out to every student from the campus colleges to the last person so that no one is deprived of quality education and its benefits. Due emphasis will be laid on establishing a Web-based interface between the University and students and strengthening the alumni association whose support is indispensable in achieving the desired goals. Speaking to reporters after taking charge as the Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Appa Rao said he would propose the setting up of advanced research facilities which could utilize the technical expertise available in JNTU Engineering College. The possibility of introducing courses which can help in fully harnessing the natural resources available in this region: paddy which earned for East and West Godavari districts the name ‘Rice Bowl of India’ and, the petroleum reserves discovered by Reliance Industries, ONGC etc, would be explored. The JNTU would try to forge a tie-up with Rangaraya Medical College to promote the study and research in bio-informatics. Mr. Rao said he would ask Union Minister of State for Defence M.M Pallam Raju to examine the scope for setting up a Centre for Defence Studies at Kakinada and expand the Naval facilities to this coastal city from Visakhapatnam which has become crowded. International agencies would be roped in to give a performance rating to JNTU, Kakinada so that it gets global recognition. A rating by reputed firms would also help it in mobilising greater financial and logistical support. Mr. Appa Rao said he would seek the cooperation and support of all sections, including the old students, citing a donation of Rs 8 crore made by Infosys chief mentor N.R Narayana Murthy to IIT, Kanpur. ``I will not leave any stone unturned to enhance the stature of JNTU which has a rich history and tremendous potential to exalted positions in future”, he added. JNTU Engineering College principal E.V. Prasad and others were present.
