Doctors defer resignation

BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa Medical Services Association (OMSA) which threatened that 2700 government doctors would not attend patients from August 27 by tendering mass resignation deferred the day to August 31 in wake of large scale violence in Kandhamal district.

“Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik requested the doctors not to take extreme steps due to emergency situation. We as doctors also felt abstaining from duties in time crisis was against our conscience,” said Nihar Samal, an OMSA spokesperson here on Wednesday. Doctors were up in arms against State government’s delay over finalizing cadre restructuring and formulation of transparent transfer policy.
