Final MOMENTS: Students on the last day of the general academic counselling at Anna University in Chennai on Tuesday. CHENNAI: As many as 8,068 vacancies remained on the last day of the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) general academic counselling here on Tuesday. On August 30, a special ‘walk in’ counselling will be held for the remaining seats, after the counselling for candidates who appeared for the special supplementary examinations on Wednesday, for students from other states on Thursday and students of the vocational stream, on Friday. A total of 1,15,574 applicants were called for counselling this year. “Of these, 74,332 candidates were allotted seats,” V. Rhymend Uthariaraj, secretary, TNEA said. Over 41,000 students did not attend the counselling this year. Almost 95 per cent of the seats in the mechanical and civil engineering streams were filled, Mr. Uthariaraj pointed out. “The higher demand for core disciplines is possibly because there is more awareness now. And those who take up core areas can later go to the IT stream also if they are interested,” he added. Special counsellingFor the special ‘walk in’ counselling scheduled to be held on August 30, all eligible candidates from the HSC academic and vocational streams may apply. Candidates of the HSC vocational stream who applied but were not called for the counselling may also attend the special counselling. Candidates have to pay Rs.500 for the application form. SC/ST candidates from Tamil Nadu will need to pay Rs.250 and also produce their permanent community certificate. General category students will have to make an initial payment of Rs.5,000 while SC/ST from Tamil Nadu will have to pay Rs.1,000. Only candidates from Tamil Nadu are eligible. Candidates should report at the Examination Centre, Anna University at 8 a.m. with original certificates. Applications will be made available at the venue.
