Rice smuggler held under Goondas Act

MADURAI: A man involved in smuggling of ration rice has been detained under the Goondas Act.

According to a release from Collector S. S. Jawahar, rice was seized at various places by Civil Supplies officials and Food Cell police. About 3,600 kg of rice was seized by officials involved in checking vehicles at Kappalur check-post from a vehicle on August 19. Later, 12,650 kg of rice was seized from a godown at Kappalur and 5,000 kg on the Tamil Sangam-Mani Nagaram Road Junction. J. Christopher, involved in the above incidents of rice smuggling, was detained under Goondas Act.
