History-sheeter killed by his rivals

Special Correspondent

MADURAI: A man wanted in a few criminal offences in the city police stations was killed by his rivals on the night of Monday.

Karuppusami of Ponnu Pillai Thoppu in Mela Anuppanadi was wanted in connection with attempt to murder cases in Avaniapuram and other police stations. It is suspected that he had previous enmity with Suresh (26) of the same locality and his accomplices over an immovable property.

In a bid to take revenge, Suresh and the gang had allegedly attacked Karuppusami with weapons leading to this death. Suresh, Selvam, Udayakumar, Senthil Kumar and Anand were arrested and the police are on the look out for few others. The Avaniapuram police have registered a case of murder.

Another murder

In another case of murder committed in broad daylight, an armed gang assaulted Mohan (48) of Bharathiar Nagar Second Street in Sammattipuram and escaped from the spot.

Mohan, who owned a flour mill, was intercepted in front of his mill by a gang which arrived in an autorickshaw and attacked him. Mohan was killed on the spot.

The S. S. Colony police visited the spot.

Finger prints were lifted and sniffer dog was pressed into service.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that the murder of Mohan could be to avenge the death of a financier of the area, Ilayaraja of Sammatipuram.

He was killed and his body abandoned in a canal on July 1.

Mohan was interrogated then, police sources said and added that they were examining several angles to the crime.

Based on a complaint from Mohan’s son, Aravind, the police have registered a case and are investigating.
