Rain disrupts traffic movement

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Traffic went haywire in several parts of the city as the rain that began around Monday midnight continued till Tuesday morning transforming some stretches into pools of water.

School-going children were put to difficulty as showers became heavier around 7 a.m. Among other areas, localities in Malakpet, Dilsukhnagar and L.B. Nagar were the worst affected.

Even during lean hours, traffic crawls on Chaitanyapuri-Dilsukhnagar and Nalgonda crossroads-Malakpet-Chaderghat stretches. With water getting stagnated at some points on these routes, vehicle movement came to a grinding halt.

Water accumulated nearly a foot-deep on the road near Malakpet railway bridge. As manholes are on sides, commuters tend to drive in the middle of the road. Except buses, other four-wheelers and bikes could not ply past the bridge holding up traffic on all connected routes. Two-wheeler riders had to get down and push their vehicles.

Equally chaotic was the traffic movement at Dilsukhnagar. Water entered the entire cellar of Annapurna complex here. Similar was the fate of some more buildings accommodating shops and business establishments.

Many residential localities like Greenpark Colony, Tapovan Colony near Saroornagar, Singareni Colony in Saidabad and Sainagar and Mamatanagar in Nagole were inundated. People went up the terraces as water entered houses in most of these localities.
