Bank clerk arrested

CHENNAI: The clerk of a nationalised bank was arrested on charges of stealing Rs.1.5 lakh from the bank here on Tuesday. According to the police, Senior Manager Rathinasamy had lodged a complaint that Rs.1.5 lakh was missing from the bank’s White’s Road branch after a sum of Rs. 1.14 crore was counted. Though counting machines were used, a team of about 15 members supervised the process.
A special team of the Anna Salai police investigated the case. After preliminary enquiries, the team narrowed down on clerk M. Arumugam (32). On interrogation, he confessed to have taken away the money. The cash was found following a search at his house in Thiru Vi Ka Nagar.
Arumugam was produced in a city court and remanded to judicial custody.
