CUTTACK: The Executive Council of State Board of Secondary Education (BSE) has approved the examination committee proposal to have only 600 marks in the State Matriculation examination from next year instead of the present 800 marks. The proposal would now be placed before the government for ratification, informed the BSE secretary N.R. Mohapatra. Accordingly, the students would now concentrate only on six subjects carrying 100 marks each as per the NCERT pattern of examination. There would be no cumbersome practical and optional papers, which created a lot of confusion among the students, teachers and parents during this year’s Matriculation examination as per the new setup. “The new scheme of examination would come into force immediately from 2009 annual High School Certificate examination”, Mohapatra added. It is hoped that the State Government would approve the proposal without any hassles as it was the State school and Mass Education Minister Sanjeeb Sahu who had mooted the idea just after the publication of this year’s Matriculation examination result. The new scheme, if implemented would certainly increase the pass percentage of the examination in the State and the students would be greatly benefited, opined the senior teachers.
