KSRTC staff union threatens strike from September 10

Staff Correspondent

Employees want their demands to be conceded by then

‘Management is

not making regular

appointments’

MYSORE: The Akhila Karnataka Rajya Raste Sarige Nowkarara Mahamandali has threatened to launch an agitation from September 10 if its long-pending demands, including revision of pay scale, are not conceded as per the “reported agreement” which should have come into force on January 1, 2008.

The mahamandali had placed 38 demands before the management of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) for consideration.

The pay scale of the employees of the State and Union governments had been revised according to the recommendations of the committees formed for the purpose. “However, our pay scales have not been revised and the benefits given to government employees have not been considered for us despite repeated pleas to the management,” office-bearers of the mahamandali said in a press release issued here on Wednesday.

Despite legislations and norms, the Government and the corporation had been “unilaterally” revising the scales of KSRTC employees, who were getting 21.5 per cent less pay than the government employees, they said.

Also, no new allowance had been extended to the employees since past 12 years. The office-bearers alleged that though there were vacant posts of driver and conductor and in the technical division, the management was not making regular appointments and instead appointed trainees giving them a meagre pay ranging from Rs. 1,750 to Rs. 2,500.
