Parliament session from October 17

NEW DELHI: The dates for the next session of Parliament were finalised after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs. It was officially stated that Parliament would meet on October 17 and would be in session for about five weeks till November 21.

Parliament was not prorogued after the two-day session of the Lok Sabha on July 21 and 22 when the motion of confidence was voted upon and adopted. If it does not get prorogued, the next session would be seen as a continuation of the two-day session.

Assembly elections

A number of Assembly elections are due to be held in November-December, including Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram. Elections in Jammu and Kashmir are due in October-November.

The last dates by which the new Assemblies have to be convened are as follows: Jammu and Kashmir November 20, Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram December 14, Delhi December 17, Chhattisgarh December 21 and Rajasthan January 14, 2009.
