Seeks Arogyasri benefits for tribals

Farmers in the district had lost crops due to floods

160 deaths reported in tribal belt due to viral fevers

ADILABAD: The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has warned of registering a private complaint in the A.P. High Court in case there is any further delay in giving compensation to farmers who lost standing crops during the floods earlier this month.

The party has also demanded extending the Arogyasri provisions to all the tribals who are suffering from viral fever in the agency mandals of Adilabad district.

At a press conference here on Wednesday, Adilabad Zilla Parishad chairman Rathod Ramesh criticised the government for failing to hand over the compensation as also to curb deaths due to viral fever.

He said on the one hand farmers who had lost precious crops to floods were under going extreme hardships in the absence of relief and compensation and on the other tribals in agency area were faced with the epidemic crisis.

The chairman said 160 deaths had taken place since March in the tribal belt due to viral fever. He said even such a grave situation failed to move the conscience of the government. He also warned of an agitation in case the government sells off the closed cement factory in Adilabad.
