NDMC area goes powerless

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Several areas around Connaught Place in the heart of the Capital were hit by a long power cut that lasted over three hours on Wednesday after a transformer at the 33-kV sub-station on School Lane behind Super Bazar developed a fault.

The affected areas included Rafi Marg, Sansad Marg, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Road, Barakhamba Road, Kasturba Gandhi Road, Hanuman Road and Mandi House among others.

According to New Delhi Municipal Council officials, the fault occurred around 12-30 p.m. and power was restored to most areas by about 5-30 p.m.

An NDMC official said: “Moisture in the air following rain in the Capital led to the fault in the transformer. Since the sub-station also supplies bulk power, other areas were also affected. Till the fault was rectified, we resorted to rotating power supply to the affected buildings by managing duplicate supply from other two transformers stationed at the School Lane sub-station.”
